AN ACT concerning
Child Placement - Attorneys' Pleadings

the purpose of exempting attorneys from the
requirement of obtaining a license from the State
Department of Human Resources when they prepare the
pleadings necessary to accomplish the adoption of a
child, and perform those functions associated with
the normal practice of law.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 20(c) be and it is hereby
added to Article 88A — Social Services Administration, of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume
and 1976 Supplement) to read as follows:

20.
(C) AN ATTORNEY IS NOT ACTING AS A CHILD PLACEMENT
AGENCY OR ENGAGING IN THE PLACEMENT OF CHILDREN, FOR THE
PURPOSES OF SUBSECTION (A), BY PREPARING THE PLEADINGS
NECESSARY TO ACCOMPLISH THE ADOPTION OF A CHILD, OR BY
PERFORMING OTHER FUNCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NORMAL
PRACTICE OF LAW.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
