MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                               2281 to receive within the academic year of application a
bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of
higher learning within or without the State of Maryland,
or who have been approved for admission to the School of
Medicine under an early admissions program, AND (3) whose financial needs and resources meet requirements determined by rules and regulations adopted and promulgated by the State Scholarship Board, which shall
be so prep
ared and applied as to assure that a definite financial need shall be a prerequisite to receiving a scholarship under this section[, (4) and who furnish a
surety bond to the State of Maryland, the condition of
which bond is that the applicant, provided he received
the M.D. degree shall, following a desired period of
internship and residency, engage in the family practice
of medicine in an area of need or accept employment in
State health service for a period of not less than three
years. The bond shall be in an amount not less than three times the amount of any scholarship received, with such security as may be determined by the State Scholarship Board]. 61A. (d) Eligibility for becoming a Maryland family
practice resident is limited to persons (1) who are
graduates of and holding a medical degree from an
approved medical school, AND (2) who have been accepted
into an approved family practice residency program in
Maryland [and (3) who furnish a surety bond to the
State of Maryland, the condition of which bond is that
the applicant, provided he completes the family practice
residency, engage in that specialty in an area of need
for a period of not less than three years ONE YEAR. The bond shall be in an amount not less than the support received OF $15,000, with such security as may be
determined by the State Scholarship Board or its
successor agency]. (i) [Upon the failure or refusal of any person
to observe the conditions of a bond under this section,
the Attorney General shall do that which is necessary and
proper to enforce the obligation of the bond. Any moneys
received from the enforcement of the obligation of a bond
shall be accounted for by the Attorney General and revert
to the general funds of the State treasury.] THE
COMMUTES CHEATED IN SUBSECTION (B) SHALL SUBMIT TO THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 1 OF EACH YEAR A
REPORT ON ITS PROGRESS IN SUPPLYING FAMILY PRACTICE
DOCTORS FOR MARYLAND.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.
