(1974 Volume and 1976 Supplement) be and it is hereby
repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-30 9.
(e) The Sheriff of Baltimore County shall receive
a salary of $[18,500] 25,000. He shall appoint a chief
deputy, [four additional full-time deputies, a deputy
sheriff's matron, and a docket clerk] 32 DEPUTY SHERIFFS
AND ANY CLERICAL ASSISTANTS REQUIRED BY THE DUTIES OF THE
OFFICE. He may also appoint [persons] THE DEPUTIES to
the [positions] RANKS of captain, lieutenant, and
sergeant within his office. All full-time employees
under this section are subject to the provisions of the
county merit system and the rules and regulations passed
by the County Council pursuant to the charter, as to
qualifications, compensation, and other regulations. [No
part—time] PART-TIME deputies may NOT be employed by the
Sheriff's office. However, the Sheriff may appoint as
part—time deputies persons employed in specific plants,
institutions, colleges, and hospitals situated within
Baltimore County who are limited to service only within
the particular facility where they are employed, and who
may not be compensated by Baltimore County for their
services.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the persons specified by this
Act in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the
persons specified by this Act shall take effect at the
beginning of the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.
