[7-204.
(a) The Maryland Commission on Mining Laws is
created and continued. It consists of three persons
appointed by the Governor, with the advice of the
Secretary. One of the three members shall be a
representative of the mine operators, one shall be a
representative of the mine employees, and at least one
member shall be a resident of the State who is not
affiliated with the Governor's own political party. The
Governor shall designate one of the members to serve as
chairman. The commissioners shall serve without
compensation but shall be reimbursed in accordance with
the standard travel regulations for travel expenses and
disbursements made in the conduct of their official
duties. The commissioners serve at the pleasure of the
Governor.
(b) The Commission shall review the mining laws of
the State and make recommendations concerning personnel
and equipment, and generally make recommendations to the
Secretary and any other appropriate authorities to
promote the safety of miners in the State consistent with
producing the maximum amount of coal from the mines.]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.
