Public Assistance — Consumer Price Index Adjustments

FOR the purpose of adjusting [[annually]] for a certain

period of time the amount of certain public

assistance payments in accordance with the annual
change in the consumer price index and providing for
the manner of making the adjustments.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 17C be and it is hereby added
to Article 88A — Social Services Administration, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and
1975 Supplement) to read as follows:

17C.

(A) FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING
TERMS HAVE THE MEANINGS INDICATED:

(1)    "CONTINUING GRANTS" MEANS PAYMENTS MADE
TO NEEDY INDIVIDUALS ON A PERIODIC BASIS UNDER
[[PROGRAMS]] THE PROGRAM OF AID TO FAMILIES WITH
DEPENDENT CHILDREN, [[INCLUDING]] EXCLUDING PROGRAMS OF
AID TO FAMILIES WITH DEPENDENT CHILDREN FOR EMPLOYABLES
AND GENERAL PUBLIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS[[, INCLUDING
PROGRAMS OF GENERAL PUBLIC ASSISTANCE FOR EMPLOYABLES]].

(2)    "CONSUMER PRICE INDEX" MEANS THE   AVERAGE
ANNUAL CONSUMER PRICE INDEX (ALL ITEMS - UNITED     STATES
CITY AVERAGE) AS PUBLISHED BY THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS.
