JOINT RESOLUTIONS
No. 55
FOR the purpose of requesting the State to join private
interests and Baltimore City to raise funds to
prevent the dismantling of the Peabody Institute, or
the loss of any of its artifacts.
WHEREAS, The Peabody Institute is one of the most
noted music conservatories in the nation and one of the
most outstanding cultural institutes in Maryland; and
WHEREAS, In this Bicentennial year it would be
particularly unfortunate for this State to lose the
irreplaceable artifacts which have been collected at the
Institute and which are exhibited there for public
education and enjoyment; and
WHEREAS, Many famous musicians, including Leon
Fleisher and Elaine Bonazzi, contribute to the cultural
life of this State through their associations with this
Conservatory; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the State join private interests and Baltimore City to
raise funds to prevent the dismantling of the Peabody
Institute at this time, or the loss of any of its
valuable artifacts to the citizens of this State; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
[[the Baltimore City Department of Education, North
Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21218]] William Donald
Schaeffer Mayor of Baltimore, the Maryland Council on
Higher Education, and the Maryland Arts Council.

A House Joint Resolution concerning
Sewage Facilities — Floodproofing
FOR the purpose of requesting the [[Department of
Economic and Community Development, the Department
of Natural Resources, and the]] Environmental Health
Administration of the Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene to form a study committee, with the
assistance of the Departments of Economic and
Community Development and Natural Resources, to
promulgate guidelines to the floodproofing of sewage
facilities in the State; and to presently protect
State waters from further pollution from overflowing
sewage facilities.
