No. 52

which the layoff is to occur; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the necessary investigation be conducted by the
appropriate officials of the State of Maryland to
[[provide for]] determine the feasibility of a system of
layoffs based on total length of State service and not on
length of service in the present classification in which
the layoff is to occur; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
The Honorable Marvin Mandel, The Honorable Blair Lee, The
Honorable Louis L. Goldstein, The Honorable John Hanson
Briscoe, The Honorable Steny Hamilton Hoyer, and The
Honorable Henry G. Bosz.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters
Killed in the Line of Duty

FOR the purpose of designating a day to memorialize Law
Enforcement Officers and Firefighters killed in the
line of duty; and to arrange for appropriate
ceremonies in their honor.

Over the years, many Law Enforcement Officers and
Firefighters have made the supreme sacrifice in the
service of the people of Maryland. It is therefore
fitting that we set aside a day to honor these brave
citizens who gave their lives in the protection of the
citizens of this State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
this Body request the Governor, by executive
proclamation, to designate the third Sunday in May of
each year as Fallen Heroes Day, which is not to be a
State holiday and to call upon the elected and appointed
officials, the executive or administrative official of
each of the law enforcement and fire departments in the
State and the general public to arrange for appropriate
ceremonies to honor those valiant public servants killed
in the line of duty; and be it further

RESOLVED, That 25 copies of this Resolution be sent
to Delegate Elmer F. Hagner, Jr., House of
[[Representatives 33 Delegates Office Building, Annapolis,
Maryland, for distribution.
