AN ACT concerning
Consumer Protection — Real Property
FOR the purpose of including certain real property
transactions, certain activities related to these
transactions, and certain leases and rentals within
the scope of the Consumer Protection Act and the
meaning of "unfair or deceptive trade practices";
deleting certain unnecessary and repetitive
language; and clarifying certain provisions related
to the protection of consumers from unfair or
deceptive trade practices.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 13-101(c), (d), and (g), 13-102(a)(1) and
(b)(2), 13-204(9), 13-301, and 13-303

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 13-101(c), (d), and (g) ,
13-102(a)(1) and (b)(2), 13-204(9), 13-301, and 13-303 of
Article — Commercial Law, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1975 Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and they
are hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

13-101.
(c) (1) "Consumer" means an actual or
prospective purchaser, lessee, or recipient of consumer
goods, consumer services, CONSUMER REALTY, or consumer
credit.
(2) "Consumer" includes a co-obligor or
surety for a consumer.
(d) "Consumer credit," "consumer debts," "consumer
goods," "CONSUMER REALTY", and "consumer services" mean,
respectively, credit, debts or obligations, goods, REAL
PROPERTY, and services which are primarily for personal,
household, family, or agricultural purposes.
(g) "Merchant" means a person who directly or
indirectly either offers or makes available to consumers
any consumer goods, consumer services, CONSUMER REALTY,
or consumer credit.
