SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new
Section 7—507.1 be and it is hereby added to Article —
Natural Resources, of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1974 Volume and 1975 Supplement) to read as follows:

7-507.1.

ON THE BASIS OF THE APPROVED ANNUAL AND MONTHLY
PROGRESS REPORTS, THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ASSESS A 15 CENT
MINE RECLAMATION SURCHARGE FOR EACH TON OF COAL REMOVED
BY THE OPEN-PIT OR STRIP METHOD. THE AMOUNTS COLLECTED
SHALL BE DEPOSITED TO THE CREDIT OF THE BITUMINOUS COAL
OPEN-PIT MINING RECLAMATION FUND.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.

AN ACT concerning

Abandoned Mine Drainage Control Act

FOR the purpose of codifying the provisions authorizing
expenditure of the Mine Reclamation and Water
Quality Restoration Loan of 1970 for abatement of
water pollution from abandoned strip mines or deep
mines; restricting the use of funds on privately
owned land; and generally relating to the
expenditure of the proceeds from the loan.

and 1975 Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed and
reenacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
