CHAPTER 824

(House Bill 1787)

AN ACT concerning

Wicomico County — State's Attorney

FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the State's
Attorney and Deputy State's Attorneys for Wicomico
County; requiring that they shall serve full time;
providing for the selection and appointment of the
Deputy State's Attorney and Assistant State's
Attorneys in Wicomico County; prohibiting the salary
increase from affecting the incumbent; and
clarifying language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

Section 40(w)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1968 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 40(w) of Article 10 - Attorneys at
Law and Attorneys in Fact, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be
and it is hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

(w) In Wicomico County, (1) the State's Attorney's
salary is [$12,000] $24,000 ANNUALLY. THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY SHALL SERVE FULL TIME AND MAY NOT ENGAGE IN THE
PRIVATE PRACTICE OF LAW.

(2)   From and after the date of the enactment of
this section, the Wicomico County Council shall pay all
expenses for the conduct of the office of State's
Attorney, including but not limited to clerical and
[secretrial] SECRETARIAL expenses, telephone charges,
office supplies, postage, premium on official bonds the
State's Attorney deems necessary for the proper conduct
of his office, upon vouchers submitted by the State's
Attorney.
