CHAPTER 99
(House Bill 1050)

AN ACT concerning

Courts and Judicial Proceedings - Corrective

FOR the purpose of correcting certain errors and
omissions; and clarifying certain language in the
laws relating to the jurisdiction of the District
Court, the exercise of personal jurisdiction of
certain persons, and the confidentiality of certain
records.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
Section 4-101(c), 4-401, 6-102(a), and 10-205 (a)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1974 Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 4-101(c), 4-401, 6-102 (a), and
10—205(a) of Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings,
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1974 Volume and 1975
Supplement) be and they are hereby repealed and
reenacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings

4-101.

(c) "Criminal case" means a CRIMINAL case within the
jurisdiction of the District court and includes a case
charging a violation of motor vehicle or traffic laws and
a case charging a violation of a law, rule, or regulation
if a fine or imprisonment may be imposed.

4-401.

Except as provided in § 4—402, and subject to the
venue provisions of Title 6, the District court has
exclusive original CIVIL jurisdiction in:

(1)  An action in contract or tort, if the debt
or damages claimed do not exceed $5,000;

(2)  An action of replevin, regardless of the
value of the thing in controversy;
