CHAPTER 699

(House Bill 882)

AN ACT concerning

Elections — Preservation of Reports

FOR the purpose of requiring custodians of election
reports, statements [[and]], accounts, and

certificates of candidacy and of nomination to keep
these [[reports, statements and accounts until the
next election for the office to which they relate]]
records for a certain length of time; and providing
for their transfer to the State Hall of Records
[[for permanent maintenance]].

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 - Election Code

Section 26-14 and 8-3

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That [[Section]] Sections 26-14 and 8-3 of
Article 33 — Election Code, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be
and [[it is]] they are hereby repealed and reenacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

Article 33 — Election Code

26-14.

[[Every officer or board with whom reports,
statements or accounts are required by any section of
this article to be filed, shall receive, file, and
preserve the reports, statements and accounts in his
office, and shall keep all of the same as part of the
records of his office [for at least two years after the
election to which they relate or for at least one year
after the date for the filing of the final report or
statement required by § 26—11 in connection with that
election, whichever is later, or for longer if so ordered
by a court of competent jurisdiction. Before disposing
of any reports, statements or accounts, the officer or
board with whom they were filed shall make a permanent
record of all election reports required to have been
filed by § 26-11 but which have not been filed. The
permanent record shall include the name of the candidate
