this Act shall take effect July 1, 1976.

AN ACT concerning

Workmen's Compensation — Uninsured Employers' Fund

FOR the purpose of providing that the Board of Public
Works shall give to the Uninsured Employers' Fund a
certain amount of money which shall be repaid.

WHEREAS, The Uninsured Employers' Fund was
established to provide workmen's compensation benefits to
employees whose employers are uninsured; and

WHEREAS, This Fund was originally set up by an
appropriation from the Board of Public Works as provided
by Chapter 152 of 1967; and

WHEREAS, The level of the Fund is presently
dangerously low and if it is depleted, deserving
employees will be denied workmen's compensation benefits;
and

WHEREAS, Another appropriation from the Board of
Public Works is necessary to maintain the Fund; and

WHEREAS, This money should be repaid the Board; and

WHEREAS, The law provides for the collection of
assessments against uninsured employers, and with
improved collection techniques these assessments could be
used to repay the Board; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Board of Public Works shall provide
out of the contingent funds of the Board the sum of
$100,000 for the continued operation and administration
of the Uninsured Employers' Fund, which amount shall be
repaid upon such terms and conditions as may be agreed
upon by the Board and the Workmen's Compensation
Commission.
