(House Bill 928)

AN ACT concerning

Criminal Attempts — Sentences

FOR the purpose of providing limitations on sentences for
those who are convicted of an attempt to commit a
crime.

BY adding to

Article 27 — Crimes and Punishments

Section 644A

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 644A be and it is hereby added
to Article 27 — Crimes and Punishments, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1975
Supplement) to read as follows:

Article 27 — Crimes and Punishments

644A.

THE SENTENCE OF A PERSON WHO IS CONVICTED OF AN
ATTEMPT TO COMMIT A CRIME MAY NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM
SENTENCE FOR THE CRIME ATTEMPTED.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.

Approved May 4, 1976.

(House Bill 933)

AN ACT concerning

Courts — Right of Removal

FOR the purpose of providing for a right of removal in
certain cases to a court [[in another]] of some
other county within the Judicial Circuit or to some
other judicial circuit; setting forth the
requirements for removal; and providing for cases
already at issue on July 1, 1976.
