Ch. 382

FOR the purpose of specifying certain procedures which a
registered voter must follow if he changes his name
for any reason; requiring the board to take certain
actions upon learning of a name change; [[specifying
the information which must be supplied to the State
Board by the clerks of certain courts in cases of
conviction of certain crimes;]] requiring clerks of
court to notify voters of their duties upon changing
a name; specifying certain procedures to be followed
by election judges with reference to the names
appearing on the register; making style changes; and
generally relating to a change of name by a
registered voter.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 33 — Election Code

Section 3-8(a)(2), 3-17(a)(1), 3-18(a)(2), (a)(3),

and (c), 15-4(a), and 15-5
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 3-8(a)(2), 3-17 (a)(1),
3-18(a)(2), (a)(3), and (c), 15-4(a), and 15-5 of Article
33 — Election Code, of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and they
are hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

Article 33 — Election Code

3-8.

(a) (2) Any registered voter who moves from the
address specified in the voter's registration or [whose
name is changed by marriage, court decree or any other
lawful means, shall,] CHANGES HIS NAME, within 30 days
thereafter, SHALL notify the board of the voter's former
and new addresses or former and new names, as the case
may be.

3-17.

(a) (1) [When] IF the board [shall learn] LEARNS
that a registered voter HAS CHANGED HIS NAME OF has moved
within or without the ward, election district or precinct
in which he is registered and, within [thirty] 30 days
from the date of such change, has not applied to the
board to [have his address changed on] CHANGE his
registration records, the board shall notify the voter by
[United States] first—class mail sent to his address as
it appears on the board's registration records, and to
his new address, if it is known, that if he does not
advise the board by a signed writing of his correct
address OR NAME within two weeks of the date appearing on
the notice, his name will be removed from the
