Novemr. Court 1701 [76] Att a Court Held for Kent County ye Twenty fifth day of Novemr. in ye Thirteenth yeare of ye Reigne of King Wm ye Third &a. Annoq Domi. 1701
Darby O’Leirey Servant to Mr John Wells comeing into ye Country without Indentures and being brought to Court to have his age Adjudged ye Court upon view of the Said Servant doe adjudge him to be Twenty & Two yeares of age & Ordered to Serve his Said Master According to Act of Assembly in that Case made & provided Jno Dowdall ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Clk Allexander Graves proves an account ast. Edwd. Smith Decd for nine Shillings Currant Money of this province ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Grand jury Called vizt. ~~~~~ And Sworne vizt. ~~~~~
Which jury being duely Sworne ye Court giveth them theire Charge who withdraw to consider if any Presentments ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Robert Dunn comes into Court & deposeth upon ye holy Evangelists that his Servant John Willson absented himself out of his Service fifty & five days whereupon it was Ordered by ye Court that ye Said John Willson doe Serve his Said Master Robert Dunn According to Act of Assembly in that Case made & provided Jno Dowdall Clk ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Read Robert Taylors Peticon vizt Kent Ss To his Majties Justices of ye peace for ye County AforeSaid The humble peticon of Robert Taylor in humble Manner Sheweth yt. whereas yr. peticoner being in ye Custody of Capt. James Smith then Sherf. of Talbott County for A Considerable Debt recovered by William Coursey for Leakage of Tight Casque turned by your peticoner & not being able to Satisdie ye Same for obtaining of Liberty your peticoner became an Indented Servant to Mr. John Salter without any limitacon of time but Untill ye Debt Satisfied Your peticonr: Since ye Signing of ye Indentures Afsd. have paid ye Sd. John Salter Afsd. as he can Justly make appeare ye Sume of Nineteen Thousand pounds of Tobo. & yet but Three thousand pounds of Tobo. of ye Debt Satisfied he continually Chargeing your peticonr. for Accomodacon Cloathing & Tenn per Cent Intrest Your peticonr. humbly Craves your worships to Take ye Afsd. prmisses into your Wise & Tender Consideracon that your peticoner may have his freedom & not lye under ye Confinement of ye Said John Salter by his Extorting meanes and as in duty bound your peticoner Shall Ever pray ~~~ &a. The which peticon being Read & by ye Court heard & duly considered but ye Said John Salter not being now present but Soone afterwards appeares & acquainting of ye Court (after his hearing of Said peticon Read) that he had an Acct. ast. ye Said Robert Taylor & prayed that ye Said Matter |
