439 This Indenture made the Ninth day of August in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred seven hundred and eighty five Between Clement Hollyday & Gabriel Duvall two of the Commissioners appointed to preserve confiscated British Property of the one part and John Courts Jones of Charles County of the other part Whereas the aforesaid Commissioners by an Act entitled an Act for the sale of certain Confiscated British property pledged for the Redemption of Certificates and an act entitled an act to postpone the sale of certain Confiscated British property for the redemption of certificates were directed to lay off Monococy Manor in Frederick County in convenient Lots and the same to sell at public Sale and the said Commissioners did by Virtue and in pursuance of the said Acts and in conformity to the directions thereof sell the same on the tenth day of September in the Year Seventeen hundred & eighty two at which said Sale the aforesaid John Courts Jones became the purchaser of Lots Number Seventy eight & eighty three being part of the said Manor he being the highes Bidder therefor at and for the sum of one hundred and fifteen pounds for Number seventy eight & one hundred and twenty pounds for Number eight three Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the aforesaid Clement Hollyday & Gabriel Duvall for and in consideration of the aforesaid Sum of one hundred & fifteen pounds & also the aforesaid sum of one hundred & twenty pounds to the Commissioners of Confiscated Estates paid before the Sealing and Delivery of these Presents Have granted bargained and Sold released enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell release enfeoff and confirm unto the aforesaid John Courts Jones his heirs and assigns forever the aforesaid Lot Numbered seventy eight Beginning at the first line of Andrew Adams Lot Number twenty nine & running thence North seventy two Degrees East one hundred and three perches then South two Degrees East forty two perches to the North seventy four degrees East line of the Manor and with it reversed South seventy four degrees West Eighty eight perches then by a Straight line to the beginning containing twenty four acres also Lot Number Eighty three beginning at the end of thirty three perches on the first line of Mount pleasant now in possession of Adam Creager & running thence twenty six degrees East eighteen perches North seventy four degrees East seventy perches North eighteen degrees East forty seven perches East fifty two perches South four degrees East fifty four perches North seventy four degrees East twenty perches North one hundred & eithty perches then by a Straight line to the first beginning containing forty two acres together with all and singular the advantages Hereditaments Privileges and Appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining and also all the right Title and Estate Interest property claim and demand of them the said Clement Hollyday and Gabriel Duvall as Commissioners aforesaid and all the estate right title and Interest of Henry Harford Esquire of Great Britain or any other person (claiming) |
