778) 797 Maryland fs We y.r subscribers Officiating by Comission in y.e Qualification of his Maj.tys Justices of y.e Provinciall Court of this Province doe hereby solemnly declare that we did never directly nor indirectly Recieve any comand or direction from his Ex.cy y.e p.rsent Govern.r for y.e doeing any illegall Act or thing whereby Justice might be pverted or y.e Law strained beyond its due limitts; either for y.e favouring or punishing any particular party or partys but that both y.e y.e Gen.ll & particular comands We have always Rec.d from his Ex.ncy have been to see speedy Justice done & good rules made for y.e more effectuall putting in prosecution all y.e Laws of England & of this Province Given under our hands this 14.th day of Decemb.r in the eighth year of his Majesties Reigne &c.a Annoq.r Domini 1696 Robert Smith Phill Hopkins Sworne unto in open Courte before y.e Honor.ble Philip Clarke Tho Staley S.r Thomas Lawrence Bar.tt one of his Ma.ties Jn.o Hammond Rich.d Hill hon.ble Councill y.e day and year abovesaid Tho Tasker H Wriothesley Clk of y.e prov.ll Court I underwritten doe sweare that I have beene employed by his Excell.cy Francis Nicholson Esq.r Govern.r of Maryland &c.a as Navall Officer of Pattuxent district and I doe declare that dureing y.e time I have served in that Office I never had or recieved any other instructions from him then to be diligent & soe y.e Laws of trade and navigacon carfully observed and putt in execution and that I never was pressed by his Ex.cy to doe any thing in my s.d Office but what y.e Law would Justifie me in and that I doe not pay any preimium for my s.d Office to his s.d Excell.cy directly or indirectly in any wise whatsoever S Watkins Jurat in Curea 12 Decembris 1696 H Wriothesley Clk I Henry Denton do hereby Certifie & declare that whereas I have had y.e favour to enjoy severall places of profitt since y.e arrivall of his Ex.ncy Fra Nicholson Esq.r within this Province viz.t Clk of his Maj.ties hono.ble Councill of State and in y.e Assembley Reg.r of his Maj.ties Court of vice Admirallty on y.e Western Shore & Navall Officer of y.e Port of Annapolis The which I now hold by his Ex.ncys particular favour; but never geave y.e least gratuity or reward for y.e enjoym.t of any of y.e s.d places neither at any time did I ever recieve any directions or comand either directly or indirectly to doe any thing contrary to my Duty in y.e execution of y.e s.d Offices Jurat in Carea 12.o Decembris 1696 Hen Denton H Wriothesley Clk I John Boaye being Clk of y.e Comiss.rys Office This three years past Doe declare that Directly or Indirectly his Ex.ncy Fra Nicholson Govern.r of this Province never did comand or order me to doe or Act anything or cause whatsoever contrary to Law or y.e usage of his Province And now more but given me strict ord.r to be carefull of y.e Records & to be diligent in my Office of Clerk shipp This doe Cincerly declare as wittness my hand this 14.th Decemb.r 1696 Jurat in Curea die & Anno supdicts J Bouge H Wriothesley Clk of y.e prov.ll Court Maryland fs Decb.r y.e 12.th 1696 I W.m Bladen do hereby solemnly declare that as I am Clerke of y.e house of Burgess or Assembly of this Province Clarke of S.t Maryes County Court & Clerke of y.e Indictm.ts in Prince Georges County that I never had any directions or comands from his Ex.ncy our p.rsent Govern.r to act or doe anything whatever belonging to my Office either for or in p.rjudice of any pson or psons whatsoever nor any advice or Instruction from his Ex.ncy further then to be diligent in my Duty to dispatch y.e Country Business nor ever had soe much as y.e thoughts of y.e giving any part of y.e profitt or perquisits of my Offices to his s.d Ex.ncy or any guift or p.rsent to him for conferring them upon me so help me God and his holy word Jurat in Curea 12.o De.rs 1696 H Wriothesley Clk W.m Bladen I the subscrib.r doe solemnly swear that I have been Constituted and Comissionated to be to be Clk of y.e Prov.ll Court under y.e hono.ble S.r Thomas Lawrence Bar.tt principall secretary of this Province of Maryland for y.e space of three years or thereabouts And that since y.e time I have been in y.e in y.e s.d Office; his Ex.ncy Francis Nicholson Esq.r y.e p.rsent Govern.r of this Province hath not directly nor indirectly comanded me to issue out of y.e Secretarys Office any processes whatsoever ag.t any pson or psons contrary to y.e Laws of England or any of y.e Laws & Customs of this province In testimoney whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 14.th day of Decemb.r 1696 H Wriothesley Clk of y.e Prov.ll Court Jurat in Curea die et Anno supdics |
