705) 715 Charles Town March the 2.d 1693/4 Articles of Agreement between the honourable John Addison Esq.r and Hugh Bickford comander of the ship Elizabeth and Anne of Topsam viz.t Whereas the abovenamed Hugh Bickford is now by Gods permission bound for England and from thence sayes intends for the Island Bermudas and this River Wicocomaco in Maryland he the s.d Hugh Bickford doth oblidge himself to deliver Cap.t John Addison three good sound male Negroes betwixt eighteen and thirty years of age and in consideracon of the same the s.d John Addison hath here paid him in hand twenty four pounds tenn shillings and seaven pence sterling and doth further oblidge himself w.thin fourty Days after the delivery of the Negroes to pay unto Hugh Bickford or order twelve thousand and five hundred pounds of good Merchantable Arrapoco Tobacco in Casque upon his own plantations further it is agreed upon that if the s.d Hugh Bickford should by any Accident miss y.e Isle and Bermudas w.ch God forbid them the s.d Hugh Bickford doth oblidge himself to repay Cap.t John Addison the above asum of twenty four ten shillings and seaven pence money in England or goods att plest cost In England w.ch is to be att the choice of Cap.t John Addison In wittness whereof we have interchangeably sett our hands and seals this 2.d of March 1693/4 Hugh Bickford Testes W.m Hutchinson Gilb.r Clark May 17.th 1695 Then came the w.thin written William Hutchinson one of y.e wittneses to the w.thin obligacon Before us Coll Henry Jowles and Thomas Brooke two of their Ma.tys Councill in Maryland and made Oath that he saw the w.thin writeing sealed signed & Deliver'd to the use of the w.thin John Addison Henry Jowles Sans Deo Virginia Agust 2.d 94 Thomas Brooke Att twenty days sight of this my third Bill of Enchange my first and second not paid not paid pay unto M.r Charles Caroll or his order the Just sum of thirty pounds sterling money of England it being for the like value here Received please to make good payment and place the same the acct of Yo.r humble Ser.vtt Thomas Brereton To M.r James Bligh M.rcht In Plymouth Enchange For 100 00 00 Bay of Bulls In Newfound Land Nob.r y.e 14.th 94 Fourty dayes after sight of this my second P Enchange first nor third not being paid please to pay or caused to be pay'd unto Cap.t Giles Perry or order one hundred pound sterling value of one hundred and sixty Quintatts dry Merchantable Newfoundland fish bought of him by vertue of your creditt To the Right Worshippfull s.r P Your humble ser.vtt Joseph Herndon In London P me Beaver |
