449) 459 To all People to whome These Presents shall Come Wee the Comm.rs for manageing and Causeing to be Leavied and Collected his Ma.ts Customes subsidyes and other duties in this his Kingdome of England send Greeting Know yee that wee the said Comm.rs by virtue of an Act of Parlaiment made in the 25.th yeare of his late Ma.ties Reigne Intituled and Act for the Encouragement of the Eastland and Greenland Trades and for better Secureing the Plantacon Trade and in Pursuance of the Authority and ^Directions to us Given by the Hon.rble L.ds Com.rs of his Majesties Treasury^ Impowered and doe hereby depute & Impower John Payne to be Collector of all the Rates Dutyes and Imposicons Ariseing & Groweing due to this Ma.ty att Potuzen River in his Majesties Province of Maryland by virtue of the said Act Whereby he hath power to Enter into any Shipp Bottome Boat or other vessell as alsoe into any ^shop^ House warehouse Hostery or other Place whatsoever to make diligent search into any Trunck Chest Pack Case Truss or any other parcell or Package whatsoever for any goods wares or Merchandizes Prohibited to be Imported or Exported or whereof the Customes or other duties have not been duely paid and the same to seize to his Majesties Use and alsoe to put in Execucon all other Lawfull Powers and Authoritys for the better Manageing or Collecting the said dutys in all things Proceeding as the Law directs Hereby Praying & Requireing all & Every his Majesties officers and Ministers and all others whome it may Concerne to be aiding and Assisting to him in all things as be^c^ometh Given under our Hands & seales of the Custome House London this Nineteenth day of Aprill in the Third year of the Reigne of our sovveraigne Lord King James the second Annoq Dom 1687 Jo Werden Whistler Buckworth T Chudgleigh D Norll On the back side Jan.ry y.e 16.th 1687 The within mentioned John Payne was sworne his Majesties Collector in Potuxen District before us Henry Darnall (sealed W.m Digges Maryland st 16.th Jan.ry 1687 I John Payne doe depose upon the holy Envang.ls that I will duely and truely officiate the place and office of his Majesties Collector in Puttuxen District in the Province of Maryland according to my Comission Instruccons and Obligacons Correspondent to that office And give a true & Exact Accompt as that office & the Lawes Required me to doe and when thereunto Required Soe Help me God John Payne Jurat Cara nob.s 16.th of Jan.ry 1687 Henry Darnall Recd March the 3.d 1687 W.m Digges R Tull Clk By this Publick Instrument of pr^o^curation or letter of Attorney be it Knowne & Manifest unto all those who shall see these presents or hear the same read That on the fifth day of the Moneth of September 1687 and in the Third yeare of the Reigne of Our soveraigne Lord James the second by the Grace of God King of England Scotland France & Ireland defender of the faith &c Before Nicholas Hayward Notary and Tabellion Publick dwelling in London Admitted & sworne and in presence of the |
