       Be it known unto all men by these presents that I Elizabeth Berckham
       Widowe of the deceased Henry Verburgh Mariner have made Constituted and
       appointed my true and lawfull Atturney my worthy friend William Stephens Esq
       of Pockomock in the County of Sommerset in the Province of Maryland In my name
       and to my use to aske demand and recover of the heirs Executors administrators
       or assignes of Thomas Notley Esq Ten thousand seven hundred & Eighty two pounds
       or the Books of Benjamin Rosier Esq or otherwise may appeare Also to recover
       And receive whatever other Tobaccoe money or debts may be due to my said husband
       as aforesaid from any other person or persons whatsoever And of the Recceipt
       to give acquittance and discharge in due forme & upon refusall to sue for arrest
       Imprison & Implead before the Usuall Courts of Justice with power to substitute one
       or more atturneys in his stead & generally in & about the Premisses to doe & to act
       as if I my selfe was personally present promising to ratifie whatsoever my said
       Atturney or his substitute shall doe or Cause to be done by vertue of these presents
       in wittnesse whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seale In Amsterdam the
       6.th of October 1684 new stile
Signed seald & Deliverd in the p.rsents of us                        Elizabeth Berckham
       Dirck verburgh      Abraham Kick
       Pieter Cato      Sam.ll Bandford

       Wee whose names here Under written doe attest & Certifie for the truth
       That Elizabeth Berckham who hath granted & subscribed the above written
       Letter of Atturney is the relict widdow of the Deceased Henry Verburgh mariner
       in his life tyme Comand.r of the good shipp the Queen of Sweadland well
       Knowne unto us more then twenty years since And therefor no doubt nor
       difficulty is to be made butt the said Letter of Atturney is lawfull & signed by
       the owne hand of the said relict   In wittnesse whereof wee have
       hereunto put our hands and seales In Amserdam the day & yeare
       first above written
