PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY

Service Award Program" to provide for the administration
of such a program by the Director of Finance and
certification of eligibles by the Fire Commission to
clarify and define the term "service" as used in Section
32—20(b) (2); to change the manner of computing payments
to eligible persons; to provide criteria for the
expenditure of payments under Section 32-20(b) (5); to
provide funds for administrative expenses associated with
the program; to set forth a schedule for certification to
more accurately reflect actual volunteer service to the
County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED by the County Council of
Prince George's County, Maryland, that Section 32—20 of
the Public Local Laws of Prince George's County is hereby
repealed and re—enacted with amendments to read as
follows:

32—20 Length of Service Award Program

There is hereby established a Length of Service
Award Program for active volunteer members of the Prince
George's County Fire/Rescue Service.

(a)      Eligibility

Beginning July 1, 1974, any person who has reached
the age of 60 and who has completed a minimum of 25 years
of certified active volunteer service, with any Prince
George's County volunteer fire company or volunteer
rescue squad or combination thereof shall be eligible to
participate in the Length of Service Award Program.

The requirements for eligibility are:

(1)   The member must meet the active membership test
under the procedures established herein.

(2)    Classification as an "Active" member by an
individual department by-laws is not sufficient to be
eligible.

(3)   Volunteer members of the fire department of the
City of Takoma Park shall not be eligible to participate
in the program.

(b)     Benefits.

(1) Effective July 1, 1974, and thereafter, any
volunteer who has completed twenty—five (25) years of
certified active service within the Prince George's
County Fire/Rescue Service upon reaching age 60 shall
receive a payment of $100 per month for life. Payments
will begin on the first day of the first month following
