MONTGOMERY COUNTY

MISDEMEANOR AND UPON CONVICTION THEREOF SHALL BE FINED
NOT MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00) FOR EACH
OFFENSE. IN ADDITION, SUCH PERSON SHALL REPAY TO THE
COUNTY ANY AND ALL AMOUNTS OF RENT RELIEF MONIES PAID BY
THE COUNTY IN RELIANCE ON SUCH FALSE OR FRAUDULENT CLAIM,
REPORT OR STATEMENT AND SHALL BE LIABLE FOR INTEREST ON
SUCH AMOUNTS AT THE RATE OF TWO-THIRDS (2/3RDS) OF ONE
PERCENT (1%) PER MONTH UNTIL REPAID.

Sec. 2. Severability.

The provisions of this Act are severable, and if any
provision, sentence, clause, section or part thereof is
held illegal, invalid or unconstitutional or inapplicable
to any person or circumstances, such illegality,
invalidity, unconstitutionality or inapplicability shall
not affect or impair any or the remaining provisions,
sentences, clauses, sections or parts of the Act or their
application to other persons or circumstances. It is
hereby declared to be the legislative intent that this
Act would have been adopted if such illegal, invalid or
unconstitutional provision, sentence, clause, section or
part had not been included therein, and if the person or
circumstances to which the Act or any part thereof is
inapplicable had been specifically exempted therefrom.

Sec. 3. Effective date.

The Act shall take effect on the 76th day following
the date on which it becomes law. The Act shall apply to
claims for rent relief for the calendar year 1972, and
calendar years thereafter.

AN ACT to amend Chapter 29, title "Landlord—Tenant
Relations," of the Montgomery County Code 197 2, as
amended, by repealing and re—enacting with amendments,
Article VI, title "Rent Controls," to provide that no
person may increase, offer to increase, or give notice of
intent to increase rent for a dwelling unit to an amount
in excess of the base rent for the said dwelling unit or
as provided in the system of rent control established by
Article VI; to provide that the system of rent control
applies to dwelling units located in Montgomery County,
