MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

b. Delete the final sentence dealing with the
1957 incumbent, as having served its transitional purpose
and being of no further relevance.

Said Section 14 is hereby repealed and re—enacted to
read as follows:

52—14. Selection and Term.

The Mayor shall be elected as hereinafter
provided and shall hold office for a term of three
years, or until his successor is elected and
qualified. The newly elected Mayor shall take
office on the second Monday following his election.

Section 7. And be it further resolved that Section
15, "Qualifications of Mayor," of said Charter be amended
to delete the requirement to be a taxpayer on real
property as a qualification for the Mayor, as being
inconsistent with state law.

Said Section 15 is hereby repealed and re—enacted to
read as follows:

52—15. Qualifications of Mayor.

Any person shall be eligible for election to
the office of Mayor who shall have attained the age
of thirty years and resided in the town for at least
one year, who shall not have been convicted of a
felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude,
and who shall be a qualified voter in said town.

Section 8. And be it further resolved that Section
37, "Vacancies," of said Charter be amended to:

a.    Add a clarifying phrase to the procedures for
filling the mayoral vacancy.

b.    Change the title "Councilman" to "Council
Member."

Said Section 37 is hereby repealed and re—enacted to
read as follows:

52—37. Vacancies.

In case any person elected to the office of
Council Member shall vacate that office by reason of
death, resignation or otherwise, the remaining
Council Members shall fill such vacancies by
appointment. Any person so appointed shall possess
