RESOLUTION NO. 6th of 1974
A RESOLUTION of the City of Laurel Adopted Pursuant
to the provisions of Article 23A, Sections 11 through 18,
titled Corporations - Municipal, subtitled Charter
Amendments, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1973
Replacement Volume) to amend the Charter of the City of
Laurel, Section 54 entitled "Taxation and Finance — Clerk
— Treasurer — Appointment; term; compensation; chief
financial officer", to place the Clerk — Treasurer under
the direct control of the Town Supervisor.
THEREFORE: BE IT ENACTED AND ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR
AND CITY COUNCIL OF LAUREL, MARYLAND, that Section 54 of
the Charter of the City of Laurel entitled "Taxation and
Finance — Clerk - Treasurer — Appointment; term;
compensation; chief financial officer", be amended by the
exclusion of the word "Mayor" at the end of said Section,
and the substitution in lieu thereof of the words "Town
Supervisor", to read as follows:
Section 54. Clerk — Treasurer — Appointment; term;
compensation; chief financial officer.
There shall be a Clerk—Treasurer appointed by the
Mayor with the approval of the City Council. He shall
serve during the incumbency of the Mayor who shall so
appoint him, unless he be sooner removed, and he shall be
subject to removal at anytime by the Mayor, with the
approval of the City Council. His compensation shall be
determined by the City Council. The Clerk - Treasurer
shall be the chief financial officer of the town and
shall devote his full time and attention to his duties
and responsibilities as such. The financial powers of the
town, except as otherwise provided by this Charter, shall
be exercised by the Clerk — Treasurer under the direct
supervision of the [Mayor] TOWN SUPERVISOR.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the date of the adoption
of the Resolution is the 12th day of December, 1974 and
that the Amendment to the Charter of the City of Laurel,
hereby proposed by this enactment shall be and become
effective on the 31st day of January, 1975, and a copy of
the title of this Resolution shall be published in a
newspaper of general circulation in the City of Laurel
not less than four times at weekly intervals before the
21st day of January, 1975.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as soon as the
Charter Amendment hereby enacted shall become effective,
