SECTION III

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That as soon as the
Charter Amendment hereby enacted shall become effective
either as herein provided or following a referendum, the
Chief Executive Officer of the Town of La Plata shall
cause to be sent separately, by certified mail, to the
Secretary of State of Maryland and to the Department of
Legislative Reference the following information
concerning the Charter Amendment:

(1)    The complete text thereof;

(2)    The date of the referendum election, if any;

(3)    The number of votes cast for and against each
question containing the Charter Amendment, whether by the
Council of the Town of La Plata or in a referendum;

(4)    The effective date of the Charter Amendment.

A RESOLUTION TO AMEND SECTION 61, PURCHASING AND
CONTRACTS, OF THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF LA PLATA,
CHARLES COUNTY, MARYLAND, TO INCREASE THE PURCHASE AMOUNT
ABOVE WHICH A WRITTEN CONTRACT IS REQUIRED.

WHEREAS, inflation has caused the existing written
contract criterion to be unrealistically low so as to
make purchasing of many items by the Town uneconomical in
view of the administrative cost of competitive bidding
solicitations and accordingly the existing $1,000
criterion is hereby changed to $5,000, through Charter
Amendment.
