MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

STATEMENTS OF CANDIDACY, AND NO
WITHDRAWAL SHALL THEREAFTER BE
PERMITTED.

Immediately upon the expiration of the
time for the filing of the statements
for candidates, the said city cleric
shall cause to be published for three
successive days, in all the daily
newspapers in said city, the names of
the persons as they are to appear upon
the voting machine label in the primary
elections, and said city clerk shall
thereupon cause a list of all candidates
to be forwarded to the board of election
supervisors for Allegany County,
Maryland, and said list shall contain
the names of candidates for mayor and
also the names of the candidates for
council, and said names shall appear on
the voting machines under the specific
office for which said candidates are
aspiring, in alphabetical order. There
shall also be an instruction on said
voting machine that, with regard to
voting for mayor, the person voting
shall vote for 'One' and that with
regard to voting for councilmen, the
person voting [shall] MAY vote for
'Four'. And there shall be no party
designation or party labels on any
advertised list of candidates for either
the office of mayor or council or on the
voting machines."

SECTION 3: AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That
the date of the passage of this Resolution is January 29,
1974, and the amendments to the Charter of the City of
Cumberland, hereby enacted shall become effective on
March 20, 1974, unless a proper Petition for a Referendum
hereon shall be filed as provided by Section 13 of
Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland. A
complete and exact copy of this Resolution shall be
continuously posted on the North Centre Street entrance
of the City Hall, Cumberland, Maryland, until March 10,
1974, and provided further that a fair summary of the
proposed amendments shall be published in the Cumberland
Evening Times, a newspaper of general circulation in the
City of Cumberland, once in each of the weeks of February
4, 11, 18, 25; March 4, 1974.

SECTION 4: AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That
the Mayor of the City of Cumberland is hereby
specifically directed to carry out the provisions of
