proceedings involving a deaf person;

The installment of teletypewriting machines in
all local police departments, fire departments, State
Police barracks, hospital emergency rooms, etc.;

The inclusion of the Language of Signs as a
part of the public school language curriculum;

The regular captioning or interpreting of
children's television programs to make this medium more
accessible to deaf children;

A greater awareness on the part of all
departments and agencies of the State government as to
the basic entitlements as well as the special needs of
deaf persons. For example, the need for agencies such as
Departments of Health, Department of Social Services,
Departments of Employment Security, etc., to give deaf
clients the quality of attention and service that is
given to the normally hearing public. This would require
the use of skilled interpreters and the installation of
teletyping machines; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
this Body requests that every member of the State
government and every citizen of Maryland show a greater
awareness of the problems of the deaf; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Governor of the State of Maryland.
