JOINT RESOLUTIONS
Approved April 8, 1975.
No. 11
(Senate Joint Resolution 28)
A Senate Joint Resolution concerning
The Establishment of a School of Veterinary Medicine
FOR the purpose of requesting [[that]] the Governor to
appoint a committee to explore the possibility of
establishing a School of Veterinary Medicine [[be
established]] in the State of Maryland.
Maryland is one of the few States of its size not to
have a School of Veterinary Medicine. Although the
Maryland system of higher education provides for
instruction in other professions, this glaring lack of
facilities for veterinarians is causing a large hardship
on all those concerned.
Maryland men and women who desire to become
veterinarians must leave the State in order to receive
instruction. This causes great monetary hardship and
also deprives the State of Maryland of the research
facilities that are concomitant with a School of
Veterinary Medicine.
Furthermore, the large explosion of the pet
population has caused a pressing need for more
veterinarians and better veterinary facilities. If the
pets of Maryland are to receive proper medical care,
Maryland must establish a School of Veterinary Medicine.
This would increase the quality of veterinary care
throughout the State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the [[proper authorities take every step to establish a]]
Governor be requested to appoint a Committee to explore
the possibility of establishing a School of Veterinary
Medicine in the State of Maryland, or a School of
Veterinary Medicine to service Maryland in conjunction
with neighboring states; and be it further
RESOLVED,_____That_____this_____Committee____include
representatives of veterinary education and The
Veterinary Medical Association; and be it further
