A Senate Joint Resolution concerning
Sawmill Creek Watershed Study Project
FOR the purpose of establishing the Sawmill Creek
Watershed Study project to evaluate environmental
problems in the Sawmill Creek Watershed and
providing that certain State and local governmental
units and organizations shall participate in the
project coordinated by the Department of Natural
Resources.
WHEREAS, The Sawmill Creek Watershed in northern
Anne Arundel County, Maryland during the past decade has
experienced accelerated environmental problems associated
with increasing urbanization, particularly flood plain
encroachment and degradation, water quality degradation,
and increasing storm water runoff; and
WHEREAS, The Sawmill Creek Watershed is suitable to
be designated as a pilot study area to evaluate the
aforesaid environmental problems since the watershed
contains farm land, public water supply wells, airports,
State and county road and sewerage projects, residential
communities, recreational park lands, small and large
industrial developments and other problems associated
with expanding urban complexes; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
this Body considers it is in the best interest of the
State to pursue a pilot study project designed to
evaluate storm water management and water pollution
control problems and the impact on the Sawmill Creek
Watershed of related environmental laws and rules and
regulations administered by State and local governments
in order to correct these conditions and prevent their
recurrence; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the following State and local
governmental units and organizations implement and
participate in the Sawmill Creek Watershed Study Project
to commence June 1, 1975:
(1) Department of Natural Resources
(2) Department of State Planning
