State's attorneys and the full—time assistant State's
attorneys shall not engage in the private practice of law
in any matter whatsoever.]
[(4) The deputy State's attorney, principal
assistant State's attorney, senior assistant State's
attorneys and the assistant State's attorneys shall
perform such work as may be directed by the State's
Attorney, or as authorized by law, and under the
direction of the State's Attorney, may present cases to
the grand juries, sign indictments and criminal
informations and perform such other acts and duties in
relation to the grand juries and in the operation of the
office as are necessary and proper.]
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new
Sections 40(g)(2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) and (9)
be and they are hereby added to Article 10 — Attorneys at
Law and Attorneys in Fact, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement) to
read as follows:

(2) THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT ONE
DEPUTY STATE'S ATTORNEY, TWO PRINCIPAL ASSISTANT STATE'S
ATTORNEYS, POOR SENIOR ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS AND 24
ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS. THE DEPUTY STATE'S
ATTORNEY, PRINCIPAL ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS, SENIOR
ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS AND ASSISTANT STATE'S
ATTORNEYS SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY.
(3) THE ANNUAL SALARY OF THE DEPUTY STATE'S
ATTORNEY SHALL BE WITHIN THE DISCRETION OF THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY, BUT IN NO EVENT EXCEEDING $36,000, TO BE PAID
BY THE COUNTY ON THE CERTIFICATION OF THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY TO THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE AND COUNTY COUNCIL.
(4) THE ANNUAL SALARY OF THE PRINCIPAL
ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS SHALL BE WITHIN THE
DISCRETION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, BUT IN NO EVENT
EXCEEDING $32,500, TO BE PAID BY THE COUNTY ON THE
CERTIFICATION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY TO THE COUNTY
EXECUTIVE AND COUNTY COUNCIL.
(5) THE ANNUAL SALARY OF THE SENIOR
ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS SHALL BE WITHIN THE
DISCRETION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, BUT IN NO EVENT
EXCEEDING $30,500, TO BE PAID BY THE COUNTY ON THE
