and public assistance activities in this State, including
aid to families with dependent children, [old age
assistance,] GENERAL public assistance, [aid to the
permanently and totally disabled] PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TO
ADULTS, child welfare services, FOOD STAMPS, and any
other social service and public assistance activities
financed in whole or in part by the State Department.
For the purposes of these powers, child welfare services
being provided to persons under eighteen (18) may
continue after their eighteenth birthday but not beyond
their twenty—first birthday.

18A.

(b) This section applies to the following social
service or public assistance programs and activities:
(1) [Public assistance to the needy blind (with
particular reference to §§ 20 and 27 of Article 30 of
this Code)] PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TO ADULTS; (2) [old age
assistance (with particular reference to §§ 72 and 79 of
this article); (3) ] general public assistance; [(4) aid
to permanently and totally disabled; (5) ] (3) child
welfare services; [(6)] (4) aid to families with
dependent children (with particular reference to § 56 of
this article); [ (7) ] (5) any other social service or
public assistance activity financed in whole or in part
by funds of the State or the federal governments; and
I (8) 1 (6) administrative, retirement and social security
expenses for social service employees (with particular
reference to §§ 13 (c) and 13 (d) of this article),
This section shall not apply to the program of general
public assistance to employables, the donable foods
program and the federal Food Stamp Act of 1964 or any
amendments thereto, including rules and regulations
promulgated thereunder, provided, however, that nothing
contained herein shall be so construed as to compel any
county or the City of Baltimore to participate in [said]
THE programs of general public assistance to
employables[,] OR donable foods [or the federal Food
Stamp Act of 1964].

62A.

The local unit may pay the reasonable funeral
expenses, not to exceed [four hundred dollars ($400.00)]
$100, of children receiving foster care under the
Administration's foster care program and recipients of
aid to families with dependent children, [aid to the
permanently and totally disabled,] general public
assistance, [and old age assistance,] PUBLIC ASSISTANCE
TO ADULTS, and on and after January 1, 1974 all Maryland
recipients of assistance payments from the federal
Supplemental Security Income Program under Title XVI of
the Social Security Act. Provided that any persons
