AN ACT concerning
Model Performance Building Code — Efficient
Utilization of Energy
FOR the purpose of expanding the scope of the Model
Performance Building Code to include a consideration
of elements which promote efficient utilization of
energy resources, and clarifying the language.
BY repealing and re-enacting, with amendments.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 257J(b) of Article 41 -
Governor—Executive and Administrative Departments, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and
1973 Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed and
re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
Article 41 — Governor—Executive and
Administrative Departments
257J.
(b) The Model Performance Code which the
Department of Economic and Community Development is
authorized to issue, shall cover such elements as
plumbing, structure, electrical systems and other
elements appropriate to assure safe and sound
construction. THE MODEL CODE SHALL ALSO INCLUDE ELEMENTS
WHICH PROMOTE THE EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF ENERGY
RESOURCES. [Said] THE Model Code shall be framed in terms
of the purposes for which building codes are drawn rather
than the specifications of materials and methods required
