MUNICIPAL CHARTERS
RESOLUTION NO. 5th of 1973
A RESOLUTION of the City of Laurel Adopted Pursuant
to the provisions of Article 23A, Sections 11 through 18,
titled Corporations — Municipal, subtitled Charter
Amendments, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1973
Replacement Volume) to amend the Charter of the City of
Laurel, Section 14 (a) entitled "Nominations —
Certificates" to provide for the receipt of certificates
for nominations for the office of Mayor every four years,
and for the office of the City Councilmen every two
years, commencing on the first Monday in March, 1974.
THEREFORE: BE IT ENACTED AND ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR
AND CITY COUNCIL OF LAUREL, MARYLAND, that Section 14(a)
of the Charter of the City of Laurel, entitled
"Nominations — Certificates" be amended by the exclusion
of the words "Mayor and" as they first appear in said
Section, and by the addition of the words "and on the
first Monday in March, 1973, and thereafter every four
years on the first Monday in March from 8:00 P.M. to
10:00 P.M. for the purpose of receiving certificates for
nomination for Mayor", to read as follows:
Section 14. Nominations.
(a) Certificates.
The said Board of Election Supervisors shall meet at
the City Hall in Laurel on the first Monday in March,
1962, and thereafter biennially on the first Monday in
March from 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. for the purpose of
receiving certificates for nomination for [Mayor and]
City Councilmen, AND ON THE FIRST MONDAY IN MARCH, 1974
AND THEREAFTER EVERY FOUR YEARS ON THE FIRST MONDAY IN
MARCH FROM 8:00 P.M. TO 10:00 P.M. FOR THE PURPOSE OF
RECEIVING CERTIFICATES FOR NOMINATION FOR MAYOR which
said nominations shall be in writing, signed by not less
than thirty duly qualified voters of said town,
specifying the street and ward in which they reside, and
no signature shall be counted if it shall be upon more
than one nomination paper for a candidate for Mayor, upon
more than one nomination paper for a candidate for
Councilman at Large, or upon more than one nomination
paper of a candidate for Councilman from each of the four
wards.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the date of the adoption
of the Resolution is the 26th day of November, 1973, and
that the Amendment to the Charter of the City of Laurel,
hereby proposed by this enactment, shall be and become
effective on the 16th day of January, 1974, and a copy of
the title of this Resolution shall be published in a
newspaper of general circulation in the City of Laurel
