CHARTER AMENDMENT RESOLUTION NUMBER 1973-3
RESOLUTION NUMBER 258

Resolution of the City of Greenbelt adopted pursuant
to the authority of Article 11E of the Constitution of
Maryland and Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition as amended), Title
"Corporation - Municipal", subtitle, "Home Rule", to
amend the Charter of the City of Greenbelt, said Charter
being Section 40 of Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1963 Edition) and containing in
whole or in part the Charter of the City of Greenbelt, by
repealing and re—enacting with amendments Section 40—4
(as amended), Title "Creation; Qualifications;
Compensation" to provide a salary of $2,400 per annum for
the Mayor and $2,000 per annum for each of the other
members of council.

SECTION 1. BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDAINED BY THE
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GREENBELT, MARYLAND that the
Charter of the City of Greenbelt, said Charter being
Section 40 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1963 Edition as amended) and containing in
whole or in part the Charter of the City of Greenbelt,
Maryland, shall be amended by repealing and re—enacting
with amendments Section 40—4 (as amended), Title
"Creation; Qualifications; Compensation", to read as
follows:

40—4. Creation; Qualifications; Compensation.

Except as otherwise provided in this Charter, all
powers of the city shall be vested in a council of five
members nominated and elected from the city at large in
the manner hereinafter provided. The term of each
[councilman] MEMBER OF COUNCIL shall be for two years and
until his successor shall have qualified, and shall begin
on the first Monday [of September] following the regular
municipal election. If a vacancy occurs in the council,
it shall be filled in accordance with section 26 of this
Charter. The mayor shall receive a salary of [one
thousand eight hundred ($1,800.00) ] TWO THOUSAND FOUR
HUNDRED ($2,400.00) dollars per annum and the other
[councilmen] MEMBERS OF COUNCIL each shall receive a
salary of [one thousand five hundred ($1,500.00) ] TWO
THOUSAND ($2,000.00) dollars per annum, payable in
twenty—six bi-weekly payments. No ordinance amending the
Charter with respect to fixing or changing the salary of
