of the City of Annapolis be, and the same is hereby,
repealed and re—enacted to read as follows:
Sec. 30-A. Additional allowance to certain retired
employees AND FORMER MEMBERS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL.
Any employee of the City of Annapolis who
shall retire and who shall receive by reason of his
prior city employment any retirement allowance under
the provisions of Article 73-B, titled "Pensions" of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement
Volume), shall be paid an additional sum by the
Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis that,
when added to whatever sum any such person is
receiving from the Employees' Retirement System of
the State of Maryland, shall be equivalent to 2% of
his annual salary (as of the date of his retirement)
for each year of continuous service, or fraction
thereof, upon application to the Mayor and Aldermen
of the City of Annapolis. The supplement payment
thus allowed shall in no case exceed $250 per month.
Said mayor and aldermen shall annually levy an
amount sufficient to pay such additional allowance
as established under this section. The provisions
of this section shall not apply unless such employee
has been employed by the said city for a period of
ten (10) years and has been a participant in the
Employees' Retirement System of the State of
Maryland continuously during such period of
employment. Further, the provisions of this section
shall not apply to those persons who are recipients
of supplemental payments from the Mayor and Aldermen
prior to the effective date of this amendment but
that the previously retired persons who are
receiving supplemental payments prior to the
adoption of this resolution shall continue to
receive the additional allowance as provided by Sec.
30—A of the Charter of the City of Annapolis which
was in effect just prior to the effective date of
[this] charter amendment. Provided further, that
any employee retiring on or after January 1, 1972
shall be entitled to the benefits herein recited.
ANY FORMER MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL WHO SHALL
POSSESS ALL OF THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS SHALL BE
ENTITLED TO RECEIVE A SUPPLEMENTAL ALLOWANCE TO HIS
STATE RETIREMENT BENEFITS OF $125 PER MONTH FROM THE
CITY:
(A) HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE STATE EMPLOYEES'
RETIREMENT SYSTEM DURING HIS TENURE WITH THE CITY;
AND
(B) HAS BEEN EMPLOYED FULL TIME BY THE STATE
