MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                       3099

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17, of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill
217.

This Bill amends Article 88B, §22 (a) of the
Annotated Code of Maryland to correct certain erroneous
language which fails to distinguish between civilian and
police employees of the Maryland State Police.

House Bill 1411, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 31, 1974, contains a
broader revision of Article 88B and, in its like
amendment to Section 22(a), accomplishes the same
purposes as House Bill 217.

Because House Bill 1411 accomplishes the same
purpose as House Bill 217, it is unnecessary for me to
sign House Bill 217.

Sincerely,

/s/ Marvin Mandel

Governor

Honorable John Hanson Briscoe
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. Speaker:
