Article IV — Judiciary Department
26.
The [said] Clerics shall appoint, subject to the
confirmation of the Judges of their respective Courts, as
many deputies under them, as the [said] Judges shall deem
necessary, to perform, together with themselves, the
duties of the [said] office, who shall be removable by
the [said] Judges for incompetency, or neglect of duty,
and whose compensation shall be according to existing, or
future provisions of the General Assembly, In Washington
County, all deputy clerks and other clerks shall be
appointed pursuant to and be removable according to the
merit system procedure established by las for these
deputies and clerks, ALL DEPUTY CLERKS AND OTHER
EMPLOYEES OF THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK OF THE CRIMINAL.
COURT OF BALTIMORE CITY, EXCEPTING THE CLERK, SHALL BE
SELECTED PURSUANT TO AND BE REMOVABLE ACCORDING TO THE
MERIT SYSTEM PROCEDURE ESTABLISHED BY LAW FOR THESE
DEPUTIES AND CLERKS. ANY EMPLOYEE OF THE OFFICE OF THE
CLERK OF THE CRIMINAL COURT OF BALTIMORE WHO HAS BEEN
EMPLOYED FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS ON JULY 1, 1974 SHALL BE
A MEMBER OF THE CLASSIFIED SERVICE OF THE STATE [[WITHOUT
FURTHER EXAMINATION OR QUALIFICATION ]].
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
aforegoing section hereby proposed as an amendment to the
Constitution of Maryland, at the next general election to
be held in this State in November, 1974, shall be
submitted to the legal and qualified voters thereof for
their adoption or rejection in pursuance of directions
contained in Article XIV of the Constitution of this
State. At that general election, the vote on this
proposed amendment to the Constitution shall be by
ballot, and upon each ballot there shall be printed the
words "For the Constitutional Amendments" and "Against
the Constitutional Amendments", as now provided by law.
Immediately after the election, all returns shall be made
to the Governor of the vote for and against the proposed
amendment, as directed by Article XIV of the
Constitution, and further proceedings had in accordance
with Article XIV.
