LAWS OF MARYLAND

[Ch. 887

legally qualified voters of the State, as herein
provided, to become a part of the Constitution of
Maryland:

Article VII — Sundry Officers

2.

(a) The qualified voters of each County shall, on the
Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of
November, in the year nineteen hundred and fifty—eight,
and on the same day in every fourth year thereafter,
elect a Surveyor for each County whose term of office
shall commence on the first Monday of January next
ensuing their election, and whose duties and compensation
shall be the same as are now or may hereafter be
prescribed by Law. And any vacancy in the Office of
Surveyor, shall be filled by the Commissioners of the
counties, or by the County Council of Chartered Counties
for the residue of the term.

(b) This section shall not apply to Allegany, Anne
Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, CARROLL, Cecil,
Dorchester, Frederick, GARRETT, Harford, Howard, Kent,
MONTGOMERY, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, St. Mary's,
Somerset, Talbot, Washington, Wicomico, and Worcester
counties, PROVIDED. HOWEVER, THAT THE OFFICE OF COUNTY
SURVEYOR IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHALL NOT BE ABOLISHED
UNTIL THE COMPLETION OF THE TERM OF ANY INCUMBENT ELECTED
AT THE ELECTION AT WHICH THIS CLAUSE IS APPROVED BY THE
VOTERS.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
aforegoing section hereby proposed as an amendment to the
Constitution of Maryland, at the next general election to
be held in this State in November, 1974, shall be
submitted to the legal and qualified voters thereof for
their adoption or rejection in pursuance of directions
contained in Article XIV of the Constitution of this
State. At that general election, the vote on this
proposed amendment to the Constitution shall be by
ballot, and upon each ballot there shall be printed the
words "For the Constitutional Amendments" and "Against
the Constitutional Amendments", as now provided by law.
Immediately after the election, all returns shall be made
to the Governor of the vote for and against the proposed
amendment, as directed by Article XIV of the
Constitution, and further proceedings had in accordance
with Article XIV.
