2726                                               LAWS OF MARYLAND                         [Ch. 812

Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1973
Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed [[and
re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:]].

[[Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact]]

[[(p) In Montgomery County, (1) the State's
Attorney's salary]] [is thirty thousand dollars ($30,000)
per annum.] [[IS THIRTY TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS
($32,500) PER ANNUM. The State's Attorney shall devote
his full time and attention to the duties of his office
as State's Attorney and shall not engage in the private
practice of law at any time in any jurisdiction during
his tenure of office. ]]

[[SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the State's Attorney in office
on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of
this Act concerning the salary of the State's Attorney
shall take effect at the beginning of the next following
term of office.]]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That a new
Section 40(p) be and it is hereby added to Article 10 —
Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1973
Supplement), to read as follows:

Article 10 — Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact
40.

(P) IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY:

ill THE COUNTY COUNCIL SHALL SET THE SALARY OF THE
STATE'S ATTORNEY FOR MONTGOMERY COUNTY.

(2)    THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT TWO DEPUTY
STATE'S ATTORNEYS AND THE NUMBER OF ASSISTANT STATE'S
ATTORNEYS AS APPROVED FROM TIME TO TIME BY THE COUNTY
COUNCIL.

(3)    THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT THE NUMBER OF
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS, SPECIAL INVESTIGATORS, CLERKS,
ADMINISTRATIVE AIDES, PARA-LEGAL INTERNS, AND OTHER
PERSONNEL AS APPROVED FROM TIME TO TIME BY THE COUNTY
COUNCIL.
