The Public Local Laws of Washington County
Section 25A-1

Article 22 — Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1970 Edition)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 25A—1 be and it is hereby
added to the Public Local Lavs of Washington County being
Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1970 Edition) to read as follows:

Article 22

25A-1.

(A)    THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY,
BY ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION, MAY (1) ABOLISH ANY WATER OR
SEWER AUTHORITY CREATED OR AUTHORIZED BY THEM PURSUANT TO
SECTIONS 445 THROUGH 466 OF ARTICLE 43 OF THE ANNOTATED
CODE OF MARYLAND OR BY PUBLIC LOCAL LAW ENACTED BY THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY, AND (2) ABOLISH ANY SANITARY DISTRICT
OR COMMISSION CREATED OR AUTHORIZED BY COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS PURSUANT TO SECTIONS 645 THROUGH 673 OF
ARTICLE 43 OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND OR BY PUBLIC
LOCAL LAW ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. IF SUCH AN
AUTHORITY, DISTRICT OR COMMISSION HAS BEEN SO ABOLISHED,
THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS [[MAY]] SHALL CREATE A
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND [[MAY]] SHALL PROVIDE FOR
ITS ORGANIZATION AND FUNCTIONS.

(B)    A DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS CREATED HEREUNDER
MAY BE GRANTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION,
MAINTENANCE AND CONTROL OF THE FOLLOWING:

(1)    GENERAL COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS, BUILDINGS,
PUBLICLY-OWNED WATER AND SEWERAGE FACILITIES AND CAPITAL
PROJECTS;

(2)    ROADS, HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND STREETS,
LANES, ALLEYS, FOOTWAYS AND CULVERTS;

(3)    WATER SUPPLY FACILITIES AND PROJECTS;

(4)    WASTEWATER COLLECTION, TREATMENT AND
DISPOSAL FACILITIES AND PROJECTS;

(5)    SOLID WASTE COLLECTION, RECYCLING AND
DISPOSAL FACILITIES AND PROJECTS;

(6)    STORM DRAINAGE, EROSION AND SEDIMENT
CONTROL FACILITIES AND PROJECTS;
