State Lottery — Unclaimed Prizes

FOR the purpose of leaving prizes which remain unclaimed
for the statutory period in the State Lottery fund
for further use as prizes, both prospectively and
retroactively, and clarifying the language therein.

BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments,

Article 88D - State Lottery

Section 16

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1969 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 16 of Article 88D - State Lottery
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement
Volume and 1973 Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed
and re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Article 88D - State Lottery

16. Unclaimed [prize money] PRIZES for [the prize
on] a winning ticket or share shall be retained by the
director for the person entitled thereto for one year
after the drawing in which the prize was won. If no
claim is made for the [money] PRIZE within the year, the
prize [money] shall [be paid into the State general fund
for appropriation in the annual State budget as provided
in § 20 of this article} REMAIN IN THE STATE LOTTERY FUND
FOE FURTHER USE AS PRIZES. THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY TO
ALL PRIZES WON ON OR AFTER MAY 24, 1973, EXCEPT AS MAY BE
MODIFIED BY THIS ARTICLE.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.
