Annotated Code of Maryland
(1969 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 83(a) of Article 77 - Public
Education, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969
Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article 77 — Public Education
83.
(a) Any person who has not obtained a high school
certificate or diploma and who has resided in Maryland
for on a federal reservation within the State of Maryland
for at least one year] or on a federal reservation within
the State of Maryland for at least THREE MONTHS and [(1)]
who is 17 years of age or older and has [been] withdrawn
from a regular full—time public or private school program
for at least THREE MONTHS, [for at least six months, or
(2) who is a member of the armed forces of the United
States and is 17 years of age or older, or, (3) who is an
inmate of any correctional institution within the State
of Maryland and is 17 years of age or older,] may obtain
a diploma by examination in accordance with this section.
The State Board of Education may waive [any or all of]
the age[,] AND/OR residence[, and six months withdrawal
period] requirements of this section, if they deem such
waiver justified.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.
