1762 LAWS OF MARYLAND [Ch. 485
(A) THE MARYLAND INVENTORY OF HISTORIC SITES IS
HEREBY DECLARED THE OFFICIAL CATALOGUE OF HISTORIC SITES.
THE PURPOSE OF THE INVENTORY IS TO IDENTIFY MARYLAND'S
HISTORIC RESOURCES FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL MARYLAND
CITIZENS. THE MARYLAND INVENTORY SHALL CONSIST OF SITES
IDENTIFIED BY THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL TRUST AS HAVING
HISTORIC, ARCHITECTURAL, ARCHAEOLOGICAL OR CULTURAL
MERIT. THE DIRECTOR OF THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL TRUST
SHALL BE KEEPER OF THE INVENTORY AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR ITS MAINTENANCE AND, AS APPROPRIATE, ITS EXPANSION.
(B) THE MARYLAND LANDMARK LIST IS HEREBY DECLARED
THE OFFICIAL LIST OF HISTORIC SITES OF PARTICULAR MERIT.
MARYLAND LANDMARKS SHALL CONSIST OF (1) PROPERTIES
DESIGNATED AS NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARKS BY THE UNITED
STATES DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR, (2) PROPERTIES LISTED IN
THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES BY THE UNITED
STATES DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR, AND (3) ALL PROPERTIES OR
DISTRICTS IDENTIFIED BY STATE, COUNTY, MUNICIPAL OR OTHER
GOVERNMENTAL UNITS UNDER HISTORIC PRESERVATION ZONING
LAWS, ORDINANCES, RESOLUTIONS OR REGULATIONS. THE
DIRECTOR OF THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL TRUST SHALL BE KEEPER
OF THE LANDMARK LIST AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS
MAINTENANCE AND, AS APPROPRIATE, ITS EXPANSION.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.
