LAMP IMMEDIATELY BEFORE IT IS TAKEN INTO THE WORKINGS
FOR USE. THIS PERSON SHALL ASCERTAIN THAT THE LAMP IS
CLEAN, SAFE, AND SECURE BEFORE IT IS USED.

(F)   SAFETY LAMPS; WHO MAY USE.—A SAFETY LAMP
MAY NOT BE ENTRUSTED TO ANY PERSON FOR USE IN A MINE,
UNTIL HE HAS GIVEN SATISFACTORY EVIDENCE TO THE MINE
FOREMAN THAT HE UNDERSTANDS THE PROPER USE OF THE LAMP
AND DANGER OF TAMPERING WITH IT.

(G)   FOREMAN TO NOTIFY INSPECTOR OF ADDITIONAL
VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS.—THE MINE FOREMAN, IF HE
BELIEVES THE MINE IS BECOMING DANGEROUS FROM AN
ACCUMULATION OF GAS, AND THAT ADDITIONAL VENTILATION
IS REQUIRED BEYOND THE CAPACITY OF THE VENTILATING
EQUIPMENT, SHALL NOTIFY THE DISTRICT MINE INSPECTOR.
THE DISTRICT MINE INSPECTOR SHALL MAKE AN IMMEDIATE
PERSONAL EXAMINATION. IF HE FINDS THAT THE VENTILAT-
ING EQUIPMENT IS INSUFFICIENT, HE SHALL REQUIRE BY
SPECIAL SAFETY ORDER THAT THE OPERATOR PROVIDE
ADEQUATE EQUIPMENT, AND, IF NECESSARY, MAKE AN
ADDITIONAL OPENING FROM THE SURFACE, OR BORE A HOLE TO
FURNISH A VENT IN THE CASE OF GAS ACCUMULATION.

7-427. COMMUNICATIONS.

(A)     WHERE REQUIRED.--EFFICIENT MEANS OF

COMMUNICATION AND SIGNALLING BETWEEN THE TOP AND
BOTTOM OF EVERY SHAFT AND SLOPE AND TO ANY OTHER POINT
SHALL BE PROVIDED AND MAINTAINED IN A MANNER DIRECTED
AND APPROVED BY THE BUREAU.

(B)   UNIFORM SIGNALS AND WARNING DEVICES.—THE
