WORKERS ON THE CAGE TO MAINTAIN THEIR BALANCE. THE
FLOOR OF THE CAGE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED SO THAT IT IS
ADEQUATE TO CARRY THE LOAD AND IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A
WORKER'S FOOT OR BODY TO ENTER ANY OPENING IN THE
BOTTOM OF THE CAGE. A CAGE USED TO HANDLE WORKERS
SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH SAFETY CATCHES THAT ACT QUICKLY
AND EFFECTIVELY IN AN EMERGENCY.

(E)    INSPECTION AND TESTING OF CAGE.--EACH CAGE

SHALL BE INSPECTED DAILY. A TEST OF SAFETY CATCHES ON
THE CAGE SHALL BE HADE AT LEAST EVERY TWO MONTHS. A
WRITTEN RECORD SHALL BE KEPT OF ANY INSPECTION AND
TEST. THE RECORD IS OPEN FOR EXAMINATION BY ANY
INTERESTED PERSON.

(F)    CAGE SPEED.—THE SPEED OF THE CAGE WHEN
HOISTING OR LOWERING ANY WORKER MAY NOT EXCEED 900
FEET A MINUTE.

(G)    METHOD OF SIGNALLING.—THERE SHALL BE AT
LEAST TWO INDEPENDENT METHODS OF SIGNALLING, ONE OF
WHICH SHALL BE AUDIBLE TO THE ENGINEER, FROM ANY
LANDING IN THE SHAFT OR SLOPE.

(H) REPAIR WORK EQUIPMENT.—WORKMEN SHALL WEAR
SAFETY BELTS WHILE DOING REPAIR WORK IN OR OVER A
SHAFT.

(I) CAGE STATION ATTENDANT; DUTIES; SHAFT
