918                                       LAWS OF MARYLAND                            [Ch. 4

7-411. SINKING SHAFTS.

PROVISION SHALL BE MADE FOR PROPER VENTILATION OF
A SHAFT WHILE IT IS BEING SUNK. UNTIL A SECOND MEANS
OF OUTLET BECOMES AVAILABLE FROM ANY PAST OF ANY MINE
WORKED BY A SHAFT, A CAGE OR OTHER SAFE MEANS OF
EGRESS SHALL BE AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES FOR THE USE OF
EVERY PERSON WITHIN THE MINE. DURING THE CONSTRUCTION
OR DEEPENING OF ANY SHAFT, PROVISION SHALL BE MADE FOR
PROTECTION OF ANY WORKER AGAINST ANY ACCIDENT IN THE
SHAFT. UNLESS THE STRATA BEING PENETRATED ARE SOLID,
EVERY SHAFT SHALL BE LINED, CASED, OR OTHERWISE MADE
SECURE. THE OPERATOR SHALL DIRECT AND SEE THAT ANY
LOOSE ROCK OR OTHER DANGEROUS MATERIAL IS REMOVED FROM
THE SIDES OF THE SHAFT OR FROM ANY STAGING OR TIMBERS,
ESPECIALLY AFTER EACH BLAST. IF A PERSON IS EMPLOYED
ON PLATFORMS IN A SHAFT, THE OPERATOR SHALL SEE THAT
IT IS PROPERLY AND SAFELY CONSTRUCTED AND SECURED.

Article 66C, section 550 of the Code. The
only changes made are in style.

7-412. DOORS.

IT IS THE LEGISLATIVE INTENT THAT SELF-CLOSING
DOORS BE INSTALLED ON A MAIN HAULAGE ROAD IF THE
BUREAU CONSIDERS IT FEASIBLE AND PRACTICAL. IF IT IS
NOT FEASIBLE OR PRACTICABLE TO INSTALL SELF-CLOSING
DOORS, THE BUREAU, AFTER A STUDY OF THE OPERATING
CONDITIONS OF EACH PARTICULAR MINE, MAY PRESCRIBE
RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE DUTIES OF THE
ATTENDANT. THE ATTENDANT IN ANY CASE SHALL OPEN THE
DOOR FOR PERSONS AND CARS TO PASS THROUGH AND CLOSE IT
AS SOON AS THE PERSONS AND CARS ARE IN THE CLEAR.

7-413. BOILERS.

(A) DISTANCE FROM MINE OPENINGS OR

BUILDINGS.--___THE PERMANENT BOILERS USED FOR GENERATING

STEAM AND BUILDINGS CONTAINING THEM MAY NOT BE
CONSTRUCTED NEARER THAN 60 FEET TO ANY MINE OPENING,
BUILDING, OR INFLAMMABLE STRUCTURE CONNECTED WITH THE
OPENING.
