THE [[COURTS]] A COURT OF THE SUPREME BENCH OF

BALTIMORE CITY SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL SALARY OF NOT
LESS THAN $10,000 OR MORE THAN $25,000 AS SET BY THE
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS ON THE BASIS OF THE RELATIVE
VOLUME OF BUSINESS AND RECEIPTS IN HIS OFFICE,
PROVIDED THAT IN BALTIMORE CITY A CLERK'S SALARY MAY
SOT BE LESS THAN $12,000.

(B)   OTHER COMPENSATION PROHIBITED.

A CLERK SHALL DEVOTE HIS FULL WORKING TIME TO THE
DUTIES OF HIS OFFICE AND IS ENTITLED TO THE SALARY
FIXED AND NO MORE.

(C)   MANNER OF PAYMENT.

(1)    THE SALARY OF A CLERK IS PAYABLE
BI-WEEKLY FROM THE FEES, RECEIPTS, AND EMOLUMENTS OF
HIS OFFICE AFTER DEDUCTING THE NECESSARY EXPENSES OF
THE OFFICE.

(2)   IF THE FEES AND RECEIPTS OF THE OFFICE
ARE INSUFFICIENT TO PAY THE SALARY OF THE CLERK THE
DEFICIENCY SHALL BE PAID BY THE COMPTROLLER FROM FUNDS
PROVIDED FOR THAT PURPOSE IN THE STATE BUDGET.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language
derived from Art. 17, §23, as amended by
S.B. 117, Ch. 212, Acts of 1973, which
increased the minimum and maximum salaries
of the clerks of the circuit courts. The
increase in salary is effective with the
next term of office in accordance with Art.
III, §35 of the Maryland Constitution.
Until that time, the minimum salary is
$6,000 ($12,000 in Baltimore City) and the
maximum is $20,000. The payment period for
salaries is changed from semi—monthly to
bi-weekly to conform with practice.

SEC. 2-505. COMPENSATION OF EMPLOYEES OF CLERK.

(A)   IN GENERAL.

ON APPLICATION OF THE CLERK OF A CIRCUIT COURT OR
A COURT OF THE SUPREME BENCH OF BALTIMORE CITY OR ON
HIS OWN INITIATIVE, THE COMPTROLLER MAY SET THE
COMPENSATION OF AN EMPLOYEE OF THE CLERK'S OFFICE, IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THIS SECTION.

(B)   INCREMENTS.
