TITLE 8. JURIES.
SUBTITLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS.
SEC. 8-101. DEFINITIONS.
(A) IN GENERAL.
IN THIS TITLE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.
FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE
THE
(B) "CIRCUIT COURT OF A COUNTY" INCLUDES THE
CIRCUIT COURT FOR A COUNTY AND THE SUPREME BENCH OF
BALTIMORE CITY.
(C) "COURT"
WAY BE HELD.
MEANS A COURT IN WHICH A JURY TRIAL
REVISOR'S NOTE: These definitions are new language
and are added to avoid repetition, since most
of the sections in this title apply uniformly
throughout the State. The definition of
"circuit court of a county" in subsection (b)
applies primarily to the sections in subtitle
2 dealing with juror selection. In Baltimore
City, the Supreme Bench qua Supreme Bench,
manages the juror selection process, while in
the counties this is done by the circuit
courts.
The definition of "court" in subsection (c)
applies primarily to those sections dealing
with the empaneling of a jury in a particular
case.
No definition of "county" as including
Baltimore City is necessary. Art. 1, §14
defines county as including Baltimore City,
and therefore no additional definition is
required in this title.
