1818                                             LAWS OF MARYLAND                                [Ch. 6

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 97, §3 of the Code. The fifth sentence
of §3 is set forth as new language in
§11-101(d). The definitions of "barrel" and
"ton" are proposed for deletion because these
definitions are included in the publications
of the National Bureau of Standards. The
only other changes made are in style.

SEC. 11-302. STATE PRIMARY STANDARDS.

(A)   DEFINITION.

ANY WEIGHT AND MEASURE CONFORMING WITH THE
STANDARDS OF THE UNITED STATES FOR PRIMARY STANDARDS
OR OTHERWISE OBTAINED BY THE STATE FOR USE AS PRIMARY
STANDARDS SHALL BE THE STATE PRIMARY STANDARDS OF THE
WEIGHTS AND MEASURES IF APPROVED BY THE NATIONAL
BUREAU OF STANDARDS.

(B)   STORAGE OF STANDARDS.

THE STATE PRIMARY STANDARDS SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN
A SAFE AND SUITABLE PLACE IN THE LABORATORY OF THE
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY AND MAY NOT BE REMOVED FROM
THE LABORATORY, EXCEPT FOR REPAIRS OR FOR CALIBRATION.

(C)   VERIFYING STATE STANDARDS.

THE TRACEABILITY OF THE STATE PRIMARY STANDARDS TO
THE UNITED STATES PROTOTYPE STANDARDS KEPT BY THE
NATIONAL BUREAU OF STANDARDS SHALL BE VERIFIED AT
LEAST ONCE EVERY TEN YEARS.

(D)    USE OF STATE PRIMARY STANDARDS AND
LABORATORY.

[[THE STATE PRIMARY STANDARDS SHALL BE USED TO
CALIBRATE AND VERIFY THE ACCURACY OF ALL SECONDARY
STANDARDS PROCURED BY A CITY, COUNTY, OR THE STATE FOR

THE ENFORCEMENT OF THIS TITLE]] ALL SECONDARY

STANDARDS PROCURED BY A COUNTY OR A CITY FOR THE

ENFORCEMENT OF THIS TITLE SHALL BE CALIBRATED AND

VERIFIED AS ACCURATE ACCORDING TO THE STATE PRIMARY
STANDARDS. TRACEABILITY TO THE STATE PRIMARY
STANDARDS AND SERVICES OF THE LABORATORY FACILITIES
MAY BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ANY INTERESTED PERSON. THE
SECRETARY MAY ADOPT RULES AND REGULATIONS ESTABLISHING
PROCEDURES AND REASONABLE FEES FOR THIS SERVICE.
